Christmas Cigar Buying Guide 2022

Christmas Cigar Buying Guide 2022

We hope everyone is gearing up for a wonderful December! As you consider cigar gifts for your favorite enthusiast, we’ve put together a guide on the hottest cigars and cigar accessories of the season to help you make the impact you’re hoping for this Christmas:

Caldwell Boveda Humidor

Hands down one of the best values on the internet right now, this set comes complete with a humidor, Boveda humidification, and 36 cigars! Half of the cigars are Eastern Savages, a unique blend exclusive to this humidor set and Small Batch Cigar.

Only 100 of these humidors were produced by Robert Caldwell, and at the time of publication only a handful were left at Small Batch HQ. This is the perfect gift for any enthusiast that always needs more cigar storage, as well as anyone that’s getting into the hobby and requires a humidor!

CAO Vision ‘22

Similar to the recommendation above, CAO’s Vision 2022 arrives in a fully functional humidor that dazzles the eye and captures the imagination. Each humidor features two push sensitive drawers with LED accent lighting and 30 cigars for an entire year filled with CAO memories.

This is the perfect gift for seasoned cigar enthusiasts and will provide them with a world class conversation piece – not to mention almost three dozen exceptional cigars!

Padrón Family Reserve Sampler

It is well known that Padrón produces some of the most sought-after cigars in the world and does so with expert precision and consistency. When you fire up a Padrón, there is no mistaking it for any other brand – it leaves an immediate and lasting impression.

What is less known, unfortunately, is how amazing their Family Reserve Maduro sampler is. The Family Reserve series is a touch pricier than Padrón’s 1964 or 1926 portfolio, and sometimes it’s hard to splurge when you already know their other offerings are rockstars. This gift is perfect for the cigar enthusiast in your life that needs to be reminded to treat themselves from time to time!

ACID Kuba Kuba Ash Tray Set

But what about someone in your life that enjoys flavored or infused cigars? This kit includes 10 of one of the most popular cigars ever sold (ACID Kuba Kuba) as well as a nifty ash tray that’s designed to share up to four cigars at once.

This gift is perfect for someone that enjoys infused cigars, or someone just starting out in the hobby that doesn’t want to dive too deep into the heavier tobaccos. I bet you could ask most cigar lovers what their first cigar was and a significant percentage would tell you it was the ACID Kuba Kuba by Drew Estate.

Diamond Crown Holiday Selection

Arriving with an elegant cigar case including three of Diamond Crown’s most celebrated blends, this Holiday Selection makes a great Christmas gift under the tree or in the stocking.

From opening the box to selecting their cigar to firing it up, this gift is sure to put a smile on your favorite cigar enthusiast’s face from start to finish!

Accessories Kit

As someone who travels a lot, I always make sure to keep this accessory kit on hand. The little wooden stand is an excellent cigar holder when you’re visiting a new location and don’t want to bring an ash tray. Even at home, I use it more often than an ash tray these days.

The lighter is a single flame torch that channels the inner spirit of a work horse! I’ve used these for years in the worst of conditions and am always amazed at how well they hold up. This gift is perfect for Christmas stockings – especially for those that are always on the go or have a habit of losing their lighters.

Year of the Rabbit Ash Tray

If you have anyone born in the Davidoff Year of the Rabbit in your life, this ash tray is absolutely stunning! Most of the art in our hobby turns to ash at some point or another, but this piece is made to be an heirloom.

Individually numbered and extremely limited to just 450 pieces worldwide, this gift is perfect for the sophisticated lady or gentleman in your life that enjoys fine accoutrements. We also have rare Elie Bleu Arturo Fuente accessories as well.

Atabey Tubos

Tubos make the perfect Christmas gift for cigar enthusiasts – they’re already sealed and ready to package or drop into a stocking without a moment’s worry about humidification. These tubos, however, set the standard in eye popping presentation.

Atabey was the first cigar to ever receive a perfect score from our Blind Review Panel, and in over five years is still only one of two cigars to do it! These gorgeous tubos make the perfect Christmas gift for anyone that enjoys luxury cigars in the mild-medium range.

Celebratory Sampler

What if you have a cigar lover in your life that enjoys a wide variety of blends and brands? We’ve put together a Celebratory Sampler that encompasses five of our most popular luxury brands to provide an unmatched amount of range and luxury in one pack.

This gift is perfect for when you don’t know someone’s preferences, but you know they favor quality cigars made by the best Master Blenders that are hand crafted by some of the world’s most prestigious factories.

Davidoff Oro Blanco

When asked what my favorite cigar is, I always pause and remember the excellence that is the Oro Blanco. And then I take a deep breath because this story comes with a disclaimer – it’s also the most expensive cigar I’ve ever smoked too, by a long shot. But when I remember the Oro Blanco, it’s practically transcendent… soft, delicate flavors that dance along your palate to a tune that’s so moving and imaginative that you can only describe it as otherworldly.

The Oro Blanco by Davidoff is undoubtedly the perfect Christmas gift for the person in your life that will be celebrating an important milestone, is a collector by nature, or loves one-of-a-kind experiences. And if you are worried this person already has anything and everything they could desire in the cigar hobby, I assure you no man or woman could ever have too many Oro Blancos!

Tips for Packaging and Presenting your Cigars for Christmas

If you’re wrapping presents to go under your tree days in advance, one of the most important things you can do is ensure the cigars will remain humidified during this time. We ship each package with Boveda packs to keep them fresh, and these packs will also protect your cigars from now until Christmas morning.

When we ship boxes of cigars, we place the Boveda packet against the box and wrap it thoroughly with plastic wrap. This serves as a liquid barrier and keeps the enclosed cigars fresh. When wrapping Christmas gifts in advance, the best practice for boxes is to wrap them as we’ve packaged them for shipping.

How to Package Cigars for Christmas

For sampler packs, we enclose a Boveda pack in each plastic back. These sampler bags will stay fresh until Christmas day as long as the bag is sealed and placed in a cool environment out of the sun. We recommend wrapping the entire box that samplers arrive in for Christmas, so that the cigars aren’t crushed or otherwise destroyed if wrapped by themselves.

It’s important to note that the cellophane sleeve cigars are often packaged in will not keep your cigars fresh. Cellophane breathes and allows your cigars to absorb moisture from outside sources for long term storage. If you will be gifting cigars in just cellophane without a sealed bag that includes a Boveda pack, the best practice is to remove them from humidification Christmas day. A few hours without humidification won’t be detrimental to the cigar experience. Many days or weeks without humidification, however, may cause permanent harm to the cigar in cold environments.

The exception to the above is tubos. If you’re purchasing tubos to drop into a stocking, feel free to place them a day or two before Christmas without any concern. The same goes for wrapping them. Just give the cap a twist or push down to make sure it’s tightly secured. The recipient of your gift will want to place them in their humidor, though, as tubos aren’t necessarily airtight – but they’ll all last a couple days, and the better ones will last much longer.
