FIAT LUX TENEBRUS REVIEW – DOM

Summary: Once lit, white pepper on the palate contrasts the dark wrapper.  Nondistinctive wood and chocolate give this cigar a great medley of flavor (think power chords over a single note melody).  A bit further, there’s a salty seed taste (somewhere between sesame and sunflower) that I often get with Honduran tobacco.  The burn’s receding hairline keeps my lighter’s trigger finger loose.  Flavor town!  Maple syrup hits as the short ash falls.  Although I’m just past an inch in, I can already say that this is one of the top five cigars I’ve smoked this year.

Halfway down, the sweetness is singing and the strength isn’t messing around.  I’m noticing the draw tightness more in this latter half.

Journal update 3 of 3: I’ve massaged the heck out of these four inches but to no avail; I can’t get any substantial smoke out of it.  The burn touch ups I can deal with, but not being able to smoke a good portion of the cigar takes it out of my COTY contention.

FIAT LUX TENEBRUS REVIEW – RICH

Summary: This cigar brought notes of chocolate, earth, coffee, cream, caramel, oak, and a bit of red pepper. I really enjoyed the flavor profile.

Draw and burn were on point; no issues to speak of with this stick.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Effortless enjoyment

Pairing Suggestion: Bourbon

FIAT LUX TENEBRUS REVIEW – BENECIA

Summary: Those first few puffs were the opposite of what I’d call tasty. Thankfully, it faded into hearty grilled meats - both in flavor and body - and followed up with leather and the heat of peppercorn. It's a familiar flavor combination. Have you ever tasted ash by accident? That's what the finish tastes like to me.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Grandpa retelling war stories

Pairing Suggestion: Sparkling water

Perceived Strength: Medium

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: 5-pack

Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
