1675 EDICIÓN ROJO REVIEW – DOM

Summary: Cutting the cigar, I notice the tobacco has some extra crisp to it.  The initial flavors on the palate are muted, but I pick up spearmint from the scent of the smoke.  Salted nuts and gunpowder.

Halfway through, I'm wishing I had something sweet to drink that would compliment the savory, dry notes.  Grain cereal and coconut.  Dark chocolate brings some balance to the dark side.  Leather and coffee at the finish.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Tatooine.

Pairing Suggestion: Daquiri.

Perceived Strength: Medium.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single.

1675 EDICIÓN ROJO REVIEW – RICH

Summary: This cigar gave me notes of hay, peanut, grass, vegetal flavors, skunkiness, and a bit of black pepper. It wasn't at all a set of flavors I'd like to revisit, though it's probably right in some peoples' wheelhouse.

The burn was good. The draw was on the tight side, but not problematic.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Heineken.

Pairing Suggestion: Bourbon.

Perceived Strength: Mild

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single.

1675 EDICIÓN ROJO REVIEW – BEN

Summary: Cold draw: hay. First third, also hay. I couldn't even make it through the last third. By the time I made it to the second, the wrapper burst in two places. This cigar was everything I dislike about Connecticut’s.

The best attribute regarding this cigar was the warm and smooth retro hale.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Cardboard.

Pairing Suggestion: A Trash Can.

Perceived Strength: Mild.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: I wouldn't. Single.

1675 EDICIÓN ROJO REVIEW – TED

Summary: This week’s cigar is a firmly packed Robusto with a smooth, light brown wrapper. The cold draw is open and I taste dry hay, fresh bread and a fruity note that I’m going to call raspberry.  Interesting.

Wood, coffee, leather, and citrus make up most of the profile here.  The retro hale has stronger citrus and wood flavors with some white pepper included.

Hitting the middle and things have mellowed a bit.  It’s wood and leather with a handful of salted mixed nuts thrown in.  The pepper has all but vanished.  I’m also tasting a vegetal finish in the flavors.  I wish there was a tad more complexity but it’s an enjoyable profile.  Performance… this cigar is perfect.  The burn line is even, the smoke output is great and at the halfway mark, I still have the entire ash hanging on.

Final section steppin’ it up a notch.  Bread and wood notes with a nutmeg and pepper finish.  The long finish has a bit of minty freshness to it.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Morning cigars with lots of body.

Pairing Suggestion: Chai tea.

Perceived Strength: Medium

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: 5-pack.

Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
