Patina Sumatra Review (blind)

PATINA SUMATRA REVIEW – DOM

Summary: Oak and musky cologne in the first few puffs cause my chest hair to propagate.  Call the paparazzi because the ash and burn line are so clean that this cigar almost looks "Los Angeles-local" fake.  Stunned by the superficial exterior but searching for substance, freshly cut (well-manicured) lawn brings some spring into fall.

Halfway down, the flavor glass appears half empty as stale chocolate is all I can grasp.  Closing in on the last bit, macadamia nut cookies have me wanting to refill that figurative glass with some milk.

PATINA SUMATRA REVIEW – RICH

Summary: This cigar brought a profile full of earth, leather, pepper, raisin, anise, cream, and espresso.

Construction was right on point - it burned perfectly and drew well.

PATINA SUMATRA REVIEW – BEN

Summary: Met with wood and a white pepper retro hale - warm and smooth. A few puffs later, it’s reminding me of a cinnamon bun right out the oven (without the icing): thick, bready and toasty. The cinnamon is subtle and pleasant.

Second half is very woody and momentarily bitter. There’s some leather and to my surprise - I finally unlocked the cherry note! It ends on this note, but I received multiple spearmint feelings in my nose. Tingly!

Pairing Suggestion: Royal Salute scotch whiskey

PATINA SUMATRA REVIEW – TED

Summary:  The wrapper on the cigar has a moderately oily sheen and it’s very smooth. It is also very light in the hand.

Starting out with mild wood, caramel, and coffee.  I also taste mild baking spices and some floral notes.  There is a mild heat in the sinuses through the retro hale smoke.  The construction seems on point offering decent smoke output and a clean, solid ash.

Middle section carries tobacco, oak, leather, black coffee, and a small drizzle of caramel.  It’s a subtle transition but it’s actually one of the things I like, a challenge for the palate.

Things are finishing with a creamier mix of wood, coffee, and leather with zero pepper in the mix. There are very mild tobacco notes and a sort of minty finish.

Pairing Suggestion: Crispy boy

Perceived Strength: Medium

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: 5-pack
