CRUX LIMITADA GUNNER REVIEW – CALIFORNIA
Summary: Absolutely nothing on the cold draw. Spicy white pepper and cedar after lighting. Tabasco sauce. The construction throughout the first third is solid and the combination of box press and ring gauge is to my liking. Leather.
Some floral notes in the second third as the pepper decreases in intensity. Still a good amount of wood coming through. Baking spices add some complexity.
I'm getting some sweetness in the final third but it's not prolific enough to place. Figured it out: Dr. Pepper. No touch ups required.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Thursday Night Football. Players playing on a short week, but football nonetheless.
Pairing Suggestion: Flaming Dr. Pepper.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Fiver.
CRUX LIMITADA GUNNER REVIEW – WISCONSIN
Summary: This cigar brought some interesting flavors that danced around a lightly earthy, peppery core: spice, sweetness, light cocoa, anise, creaminess, and an interesting bran note. For most of the experience, the core flavors were pretty good. Every now and then there'd be a peek at something really good hiding in there, though.
The draw and burn were both right on. I didn't have any construction issues.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Occasional excitement in your day-to-day.
Pairing Suggestion: Lager or stout.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Fiver.
CRUX LIMITADA GUNNER REVIEW – OREGON
Summary: Hearty wood notes, hints of cocoa, caramel and... cardamom? There’s a nice rounded sweetness hiding in the profile as well. This could be a slippery slope for our softly box-pressed guest this week. It can only go downhill from here. This cigar is kickin’ out the smoke and the retro hale has a smooth, sweet character with a nice white pepper spice finish.
Hitting the middle of this stick and sweet cedar dominates the flavors. Joining are sweet tea, a touch of cinnamon and a black tea finish. The retro hale continues to be smooth and slightly sweet with the pepper spice dropping out of the picture. Construction and smoke production... A+.
The end portion is more of a sweet floral profile with some notes of cashew and black tea. Just a little pepper spice rolls onto the palate as well.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Sliding up to the high roller table.
Pairing Suggestion: A bourbon with a sweet profile.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Take my money… box.
Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
