DISSIDENT SOAPBOX REVIEW – CALIFORNIA
Summary: Punched this behemoth because I know if I cut it and the draw is loose, I'll hate myself. Happy with the punch. Brown sugar oatmeal and subtle red pepper. Macadamia nut and Lipton tea upping the complexity.
Horchata keeps the flavor train chugging along in the second third. Burn and ash are flawless; 10/10. The nuttiness and baking spices round third and look to score.
Final third. I don't know if macadamia cake is a thing, but that's what I'm getting. I'd smoke this cake for breakfast, lunch, dinner, AND dessert.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Saturday mornings with no chores.
Pairing Suggestion: Spiked Arnold Palmer.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Box.
DISSIDENT SOAPBOX REVIEW – WISCONSIN
Summary: This cigar had excellent construction, and brought flavors of earth, pepper, chocolate, meatiness, a growing amount of spice, and sweetness to round things out nicely. I also could swear I picked up pine, vanilla, and rye bread notes. In the second half, brown sugar joined in and became somewhat prominent.
I went a little back and forth on what to recommend for this one, but I ended up with a five-pack recommendation because it didn't quite wow me enough for the box buy. Whatever it is, I'll certainly be happy to smoke more of them in the future.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Mexican hot chocolate, but earthy.
Pairing Suggestion: Mocha latte.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Fiver.
DISSIDENT SOAPBOX REVIEW – OREGON
Summary: It appears this week’s cigar is a Churchhill vitola, or very close to it, so kick up your feet because we’re going to be here a little while. The cold draw is very loose and tastes like nothing.
Starting with slightly sweet floral notes, mild tobacco and fresh bread. There is also a small amount of pepper in the retro hale smoke.
Moving through the middle, this Smoke is mellowing out a lot. Mild tobacco flavors with hints at honey, bread, very mild baking spices and almond. This is a great morning cigar...but a Robusto may be more appropriate. The construction and smoke output are on point.
Finishing off with very muted flavors at the end. Tobacco and bread with a hint of sweetness and that’s about it. It’s not bad, it’s just basic.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Cigars that are easy on the palate
Pairing Suggestion: Tea in the morning.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: 5 pack.
Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
