TRIQUI TRACA REVIEW – CALIFORNIA

Summary:  Hay, cedar, and vanilla cake to get things started.  The ash and burn are superb.  I'm a little disappointed an inch in though because there haven't been any flavor shifts or additions.

Vanilla becomes more noticeable in the second third, accompanied by semi-sweet chocolate.  Graham cracker.

In the final third, a slight bitterness creeps in, but not enough to be unpleasant.  Woodiness comes to the forefront at the finish.

If You Like That, You Might Like This:  Bagels.

Pairing Suggestion:  Coffee.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend:  Fiver.

Blind Cigar Reviews: Mi Querida Triqui Traka

TRIQUI TRACA REVIEW – WISCONSIN

Summary:  This cigar brings flavors of earth, chocolate, pepper, spiciness, nutmeg, and coffee to start with. The chocolate note really stands out. Sweetness balances the spice most of the time, but occasionally it’s a pretty spicy meatball.

Around the halfway mark, sourness and cedar creep in and throw the flavor balance out of whack. The cedar doesn’t really match with the spiciness and crowds out the sweetness.

The draw is on point. The burn has no issues.

This was a weird cigar for me. The first inch would have been a box buy recommendation. It moved into fiver territory after that. In the second half, it became a single. I want to smoke another of these to see if this particular cigar was a fluke - it’s one where I don’t think what I got was what was intended.

If You Like That, You Might Like This:  If you like ‘em with a kick and enjoy frequent flavor changes.

Pairing Suggestion:  Bourbon.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend:  Single.

Blind Cigar Reviews at Small Batch Cigar

TRIQUI TRACA REVIEW – OREGON

Summary:  Most cigars I have smoked that have a toothy wrapper tend to be some of my favorites.  I’m not sure why that is but hopefully I will be able to add this one to my list. The cold draw is perfect with some flavors of cereal grain, raspberry and caramel.

This is starting with much darker flavors than I imagined it would. Charred meat, strong black tea and even damp leather... like a bit musty.  Weird.  Also, it leaves just a hint of pepper on the palate.  The retro hale is also rather dark and earthy.  Lots of roasted nuts, dark, wet earth and black pepper.  This cigar is belching smoke too and I dig it.

Heading towards the middle of this stick and things are much more savory.  Mild wood notes mingle with some toasted sesame and tea.  There’s a touch of sweetness rolling around in there too.  The sweetness really jumps out in the retro hale smoke.  It’s very nice.  Just a dash of pepper on top too.  Worthy mention...ash god darn near right to the midway point, A+.

I’ll give this cigar one thing, at least from my experience, the flavors are anything but linear.  The end of this cigar is heavy with raw almonds, black tea, some slightly vegetal notes and flashes of cocoa nibs.  If you’ve never had cocoa nibs, think unsweetened chocolate mixed with a light cream.

If You Like That, You Might Like This:  Waking up and remembering you don’t have to be at work.

Pairing Suggestion:  A mildly sweetened Chai Tea or a nice Rum.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend:  5 pack.

Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
