Cigar of the Week: Aganorsa Signature Selection

Cigar of the Week: Aganorsa Signature Selection

I remember when I first got these cigars in the mail back in December 2018.  The gold foil highlighted the accents on the primary and secondary bands like a dream.  Just smelling these cigars was like being clued in to a secret that you never knew you wanted to know.

Aganorsa Signature Selection Review

At first light, a battle begins between sweet and spicy tasting notes.  We’ve got fruit punch, vanilla, and perfumed cedar taking on a lingering pepper sensation wrapped in smooth, creamy smoke.  The contrast here is amazing, invigorating every puff with renewed clarity.

This is exactly why I purchased these cigars a few months ago – it’s a one-stop shop of interesting combinations.  Especially for a sweet tooth cigar enthusiast like myself.

After the first ash drops, cedar straightens out into more of a traditional flavor.  Palpable fruit punch has now transitioned into hints of dried apple as peanut butter and caramel sensations build in the background. Pepper, however, has remained a strong presence in the mouth feel as well as the finish.

As I prepare to take my leave and enjoy the rest of this cigar in seclusion, I can’t help but feel a PB&J combination coming to life.  Of course, nothing happens in a vacuum and this combo is sandwiched between subtle hints of chocolate, cedar, and watered-down coffee for good measure.

Cheers to a great week ahead!  If you’ve also smoked this cigar, I’d love to hear your thoughts below.

Suggestions

Unfortunately, only 500 boxes of each size were created for Aganorsa’s Signature Selection and we’ve been out of stock for a hot minute at Small Batch.  If you see them out in the wild, I’d definitely suggest that you pick a few up to sample if you haven’t already.

The Robusto and Toro expressions seem to capitalize the most on the fruity notes that I’ve become infatuated with.  If you’re also a fruit monster and have your choice of vitolas, I’d lean towards the Toro as it remains cooler due to the length – and cool smoke is where it’s at.

If you want more punch, the Corona Gorda definitely takes it up a notch and unleashes pepper on the palate like a schoolyard bully.  Whereas I plan on burning through my box of Toros in the next year because they’re amazing right now, Corona Gorda would be my pick if you don’t think you can get around to finishing the box anytime soon years.

I’m also extremely excited about Aganorsa’s maduro version of the Signature Selection coming out relatively soon!  If you enjoy this cigar as much as I do, I’d stay tuned to Small Batch’s Instagram page or Facebook page this summer for when they drop.

For a pairing recommendation, I’ve loved this cigar with a latte every time the two of them came together.  If you’re looking for a higher-proof suggestion, Four Roses Single Barrel has also treated me well with this smoke.
