Cigar of the Week: Cavalier Geneve White Series

Cigar of the Week: Cavalier Geneve White Series

Howdy, folks!  Hope everyone is having an amazing week already.

This week’s selection is one that I’m particularly fond of and am extremely excited to smoke now that we carry it as part of the Small Batch family.  Once up on a time, I was only able to get this cigar from a shop that wasn’t familiarized with the shipping woes that come along with APO, and I would regularly get a package with a third or so showing damage.

And yet – I still picked these up from time to time because of the cigar experience.  This was also my first cigar on the Nile river, and I’m happy to say that each white label takes me back every time.

Today’s Cavalier Geneve White Series Elegantes emerges from yellow cellophane in pristine condition thanks to Small Batch’s rigorous packing methods.  These are also from a box purchased approximately one month ago, which means you might get lucky like I did with some aged stock.

Upon first light, I’m met with notes of Cream of Wheat and mild, lingering peppercorn.  Deep down, there’s a subtle harmony of vegetal and chocolate notes with a clean finish of whole wheat toast.  The smoke is cool, the texture is silky smooth, and retro haling this cigar balances out the previously noted pepper with impressions of brown sugar.

Burn down an inch further, another cereal sensation akin to Grape Nuts smacks my palate as pepper begins to subside.  I know from my past experience with this size that it really doesn’t change much from here until the gold begins to heat up.  From there, a mineral note is introduced that may or may not be up your alley.

I believe this is where I’ll take my leave and ponder the finer things in life.  Cheers to a wonderful rest of your week!

Suggestions

While I enjoy this size quite a bit, my favorite expression of the White Series is still the Diplomate.  If you want a cigar that highlights more citrus and cinnamon throughout the cigar, the 5.5 x 56 vitola definitely introduces sweeter tasting notes throughout the 90-minute experience.

If the idea of wheat and/or barley cereals excite you but the sweeter tasting notes do not, I’d suggest you try the Elegantes like I smoked this morning.  There are teases here and there, but for the most part it’s less of a rollercoaster and more of a lazy river.

Of course, I’ll link the sampler below so you can taste the wide variety that is Cavalier Geneve. The Black Series and Black Series II were developed for the American palate and offer the bolder experience that we’re accustomed to.

So many great flavors in these cigars, with that cereal grain as the note that really ties the smoke together!
