ROOM101 10TH ANNIVERSARY REVIEW – CALIFORNIA
Summary: The lounge I'm currently in is extremely smoky, so I hope that doesn't inhibit my ability to pull flavors out of my sommelier lexicon (read: butt). Starting out with musky leather. Oak. Orange sweetness shows up but is fleeting.
Flat Dr. Pepper spices up the dark flavors in the second third somewhat. Not much else going on.
Final third. Some peppermint? The ash has held on pretty solid throughout. It’s heating up on me with two inches to go and someone next to me just lit up an ACID, so that sucks.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Bivouacking in a rain forest.
Pairing Suggestion: Vietnamese Iced Coffee.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single.
ROOM101 10TH ANNIVERSARY REVIEW – WISCONSIN
Summary: If you wonder, "is there a cigar I can smoke to see if my flavor preferences match the Wisconsin reviewer?", look no further than this cigar. Its flavors were made for my mouth. Mmmmmm.
I picked up notes of cocoa, baking spices, pepper, cereal grain, and earth. As it moved along, it added an interesting layer of umami and deeper coffee notes. Then, out of nowhere... butterscotch. Like, legit butterscotch. Chocolate took the lead near the halfway point and didn't give it up, and the retro hale was especially chocolatey.
The draw was on the tighter side, but no issues with it or the burn. Construction was just right throughout.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Childhood nostalgia, assuming your childhood involved Cocoa Krispies and Werthers candy.
Pairing Suggestion: Coffee.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: If you read the review, you know this is going to say box.
ROOM101 10TH ANNIVERSARY REVIEW – OREGON
Summary: Guessing this cigar is a 6 x 50 and it appears, from the outward construction, to be of near perfect construction. Whoever rolled this cigar is obviously highly skilled. The wrapper is simply offering medium strength barnyard scents but from the foot, sweet tobacco and cinnamon are evident. Rye bread and dry leaves on the cold draw.
Initially, mild tobacco, honey, leather, bran flakes and toast... and unfortunately, a slightly tight draw. A razor-sharp burn and beautiful ash help it in best of show.
The middle section is suffering from the tight draw...light smoke production and flavors have shifted. Tasting fresh oak, floral notes and fresh hay.
The final third is turning bitter in the floral notes and adds in fresh bread, leather and medium tobacco flavors.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Bathing your 100-pound lab.
Pairing Suggestion: Vodka martini.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single.
Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
