Discussion Contest: When is the Last Time You Smoked an Infused Cigar?

Happy Tuesday, folks!

A couple weeks ago, I was in CT visiting Nicholas Melillo to shoot some video.  I was curious to know the last time he smoked an Upsetters cigar, an infused line from Foundation Cigar Co.

Since he said that he last smoked one a couple weeks ago, it made me realize that I haven’t really compared it against other infused lines since the initial release.  I can’t even remember what ACID cigars are like, although I smoked several of them twelve or thirteen years ago.

When is the last time you smoked an Infused cigar?

Login and comment on this post for a chance to win a Small Batch gift card this Sunday!

  •      If you’ve smoked an infused cigar recently, how does it compare to the other infused cigars on the market today?
  •      If it’s been years since you’ve last set fire to an infused cigar, was it something that you started with along your cigar journey?  Would you recommend it to folks starting out today?
  •      Do you know anyone that enjoys infused cigars?
  •      Did you participate in the ACID Challenge a few months ago?

After travelling so much, I finally came down with the ‘itus this past weekend and decided it was time to scratch the itch on infused cigars after so long.  Especially after Nate included a whole infused sampler as part of their Power Pack from Foundation HQ!  I figured that even though I wouldn’t be able to taste the fine nuances of most cigars, I’d still be able to taste an infused product.

So, I went to the porch and fired up an Upsetters Django, a 5 x 54 infused smoke.  The initial moments were just like it smelled, an infused bouquet of flavors that tasted like a combination of herbal tea and botanicals.

I wasn’t prepared, however, to experience the lingering spice on my tongue thereafter.  Every puff was a wave of sweetness in the first inch that was washed away with a heavy dose of ginger-like spice.

After the first inch passed, the cigar became less and less of an infused cigar to my tastes and more of a natural product.  It never truly lost the infusion, but by the end it was inhibited quite a bit.

I know that this topic is a bit taboo amongst serious cigar enthusiasts, but I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Just a couple months ago actually and it was to smoke the new Acid 20th everyone was raving about.  I didn't smoke much of it, those sweetened caps are too much.

My last one was a couple of years ago. It was a whisky infused cigar and I really can't remember who it was from. I just remember that it tasted like a fake sort of whisky, not an actual one. I couldn't stick with it long as I just kept having that after taste.

A few months ago I went through a handful of coffee cigars. M by macando being my favorite followed by Drew estates tabak especial. Want to try the acid 20 and now the upsetter

Age changes you whether you like it or not. I started off smoking Cold Infusion Tea, and Roam-Acid cigars. I was in my mid 20’s then. I’m over 40 now and smoked an Acid Roam last month, my 1st infused cigar in probably a decade. It coated my pallet with a single flavor and I couldn’t taste any of the tobacco. Not my cup of tea anymore, but they definitely appealed to me in my younger years.

I have not had the pleasure to try one yet. I’m a big fan of Foundation, and they have one that is infused. Hoping to get one in a sampler, but with so many great traditional cigars it’s hard to pull the trigger on a 5 pack.

Had an Acid 20.  Got 3/4 the way through and had to stop.  The sweetened cap got to me.  It would have been decent without that.

Just yesterday. And actually about once or twice a day. I enjoy most of the Acid lineup but my favorites are the Drew Estates Dolce and RedEye coffee infused. Great with a cup of coffee or a Dr Pepper. Very relaxing and tasteful!!

As I do not have a separate humidor to store them, I typically avoid infusions because they will infect all the other cigars stored with them.
A few weeks ago though, I was gifted a Fat Bottom Betty from a friend at my club - and the overwhelming flavor of orange pushups reinforced my conviction to continue to avoid infusions like the plague!

I have never tried an infused cigar. I'm hesitant because I fear the taste would be too artificial for me. I'm a black coffee kind of guy.

I can't recall the last one I smoked. I did not participate in the acid challenge. I don't think it would be my first recommendation but I feel like it would be relatively east to tell if someone would be interested in a flavored stick.

Ten ish years ago tried an Acid for the first and last time.  Just wasn't my cup of tea, too much perfume flavor.

I'm not sure if it qualifies as "infused" but I've recently started on a whisky(whiskey) kick. I have tried the Davidoff Late hour, Camacho American Barrel Aged, and Perdomo Habano bourbon barrel.  Not the typical floral notes in a traditional Acid, Natural, or Java cigar by drew Estate but it definitely elevates the tasting profile in my humble opinion.  Defintely worth a try if you haven't already. Bonus is SB just put out a sampler which im waiting on so I'll keep everyone updated.

this last weekend i had an Acid Deep Dish it was a great pleasure to smoke. I was gifted a Kuba when afriend was visiting NYC and was dining at WTC and brought this strange cigar to me and said," i met this guy,Johnathon Sans, and said he remembered you and to try this". Well 20 yrs ago the KK i smoked filled my house with a wonderful aroma. Possibly the swisher effect but only 1/2 of that powerful infusion comes through today.

Had a drew estate java last year, tasted like pencil shavings lol

Last time had to have been a couple years ago.  It was urinal cake infused.  Acid Kuba Kuba - vomitous to the end.

First time I tried a cigar I went to smoke shop that sold all sorts of tobacco products and didn’t really “specialize” in cigars but had a few mainstream smokes. Along with some other non-infused cigars I got, I picked up a CAO Flavors Eileen’s Dream. The cold aromas were fantastic and the smoke was good...for about 10 minutes then the novelty wore off. I’ve since tried an Acid Blondie. Similar experience, fun for a minute, then I just crave more natural flavors. This was a few months ago I tried these.

Amongst true cigar lovers it really does seem like a stepping stone into the non-infused market for most smokers, and still kind of serves that purpose. I still keep a separate "client" humidor full of Acids, in case someone wants to smoke with me but doesn't know how they feel about a regular stick. Usually does the trick!

The infused cigar I’ve had was an Acid Kuba Maduro about 5 years ago. I don’t have anything against them, they just aren’t up my alley. I did consider getting an Acid 20th just in honor of the occasion.

Been smoking cigars for 10 years and haven't had infused yet. Not sure I ever will. I think well fermented and aged tobacco is perfect on its own with its complexity and nuances. Why cover it up with artificial flavorings?

I picked one up over the summer from a local vendor at a beer fest because I wanted a cigar to smoke. I think it was rum infused. It really wasn't that great.  I'm glad I only bought 1.

The last time I smoked an infused cigar was about 8 months ago. I worked at a lounge in Virginia and we carried the Rocky Patel Java cigars infused by Drew Estate. Believe it or not, they were among our most popular sticks. I smoked each of the blends so that I could better share my thoughts with customers interested in buying them. I thought the mint Java was actually quite enjoyable; a nice change from my usual strong maduro taste. I have never smoked an Acid cigar but I imagine they're fairly similar to the Javas. Wouldn't choose them everyday, but I can understand why people like them so much!

It's been a little under 2 years for me and I had a ACID KubaKuba. Used to love it, along with Blondies, but now I cant smoke them. That was a little after my intro into smoking regularly with lots of exploration

Last time I smoked infused was at a Drew Estate event at a cigar/martini bar named Styx. I smoked a Deadwood Crazy Alice.

About a year and a half ago I tried this acid stick I got for free. The taste that coated my mouth was disgusting. I smoked maybe 1/4th of it before tossing. It even ruined the cigar I attempted to smoke after it. It was like smoking potpourri.

Congrats Steven!  And many thanks to everyone for participating this week!

About 10 years ago I tried an Acid, some vanilla-flavored stick as I recall, and I almost puked. Never again.

I know I'm late with this but I'm not a fan of the infused cigars but I do like the drew estate tabak line and I was really impressed with upsetter rude boy.
