Discussion: What’s Your Favorite Activity to Enjoy with Cigars?

As Game of Thrones comes to an end, so do a lot of people’s Sunday Night traditions in the cigar world! I’ve never been able to split my attention enough to successfully smoke during a Game of Thrones episode, but I have a lot of friends that deftly satisfy both itches at the same time.  

Which brings me to this week’s discussion question: 

What’s your favorite activity while smoking a cigar?

Actually, my absolute favorite thing to do while enjoying a cigar is this!  Small Batchin’ with a killer cigar is about as good as it gets, and I’m practically guaranteed to finish a couple sticks.  Blowing random ash off my desk after puttin’ in some work is a clear sign of a successful day.

My second favorite cigar activity is sitting on the porch while the kids play.  While hanging with the kids is the best all around, it’s not the most conducive to our hobby.  I’ve got a pile of half-smoked cigars in the ash tray that were cut short do to parenting duties, but that’s just how the cookie crumbles.  It's still a win every time Dad duty successfully coincides with a relaxing smoke.

I love to listen to a podcast like the Cigar Authority or Boveda's show while smoking. Reading a book or magazine is a close second.

I sit on the back porch and watch either sports or a new (new to me) TV series. Recently I've been watching The Sopranos. Nice relaxing time.

My favorite smoking activity is having a great conversation with great friends. Hands down.

I enjoy throwing ball with the dogs while I smoke. It gets me outside, gets me time for a cigar, and it gets the dogs time to play and exercise.

Swinging on the new porch swing, either with: my Wife, a book, or watching an online podcast of some sort. That's a good time for me.

Listen to music while relaxing outside, or running around playing with my kids.

Watching something on Netflix or Hulu is probably the most common for me. Sometimes I will listen to an audiobook while I smoke. It’s very relaxing.

Sit on the patio with a coffee or mojito and have my ipad going with a cigar podcast such as cigar authority, cigar maker interviews or factory tours etc.

Generally like to put on some music and read a book while sitting out back and enjoying the day.  Having a pot of coffee nearby helps as well!

For me, smoking a cigar goes best with doing absolutely nothing.  It's a form of meditation.  No people, no phone, no TV, just nothing but a fine cigar.

Fishing with a nice cigar on a beautiful day or just unwinding after a long week and watching TV while having a scotch. For anyone who needs another hobby to go with their cigar hobby, pairing whiskey with cigars is awesome and theres just as many whiskeys to choose from and try as there is cigars.

I was told years ago that everyone who wants to try cigars should have an older experienced smoker guide them through the process of selection, lighting, smoking, etc, and as such, be their cigar father.  My original cigar father passed away years ago and I dropped away from the pleasures.  About ten years ago a new cigar father stepped in and re-mentored me about the joyous leaf.  He is also a co-worker and friend and my favorite smoking activity has become sharing time with him smoking, doing crossword puzzles, and generally just bullsh*tting about women and reflecting on the lessons of life.

Sitting out in the sun with the dog or some pals. Listening to tunes just having a good time. Nothing more relaxing!

I smoke near my bird feeders and sit quietly. I watch and listen to the birds, smell and taste the cigar. Relaxing all the senses.

I have a swivel office chair that my wife has deemed not house worthy. It is in my garage/mancave. Dim lights, a good netflix or prime series and my favorite beverage. Best part of most days.

Gotta say my top three. 1 on the porch with friends or a book. 2 driving, gotta love a solid smoke while driving. 3 - while hiking, it’s hard to beat scenic beauty and savory flavors at the same time. Plus it means exercise for me.

On my days off I enjoy smoking cigars with my brother in the front yard. He’s new to the cigar world, so I’m constantly having him try new cigars. Thank goodness for Small Batch Cigar discounts and specials to help me to share my love of cigars.

When I’m not at work I’m walking my slightly obese Rottweiler smoking a cigar. It’s my favorite past time. Unless a little dog walks by-then I have to preserve the construction of my cigar at all cost!

Sitting on the back deck watching nature while enjoying a good cigar and smooth glass of bourbon. How can life be any better?

We have wetlands behind us so I dowse myself with unscented bug spray and sit on a small "beach" area we have and enjoy a smoke while staring at the stars through the mossy oaks, surrounded by a million loud frog conversations.

I prefer sitting on the back porch, windows open, and a record on the turntable. Some nights its John Coltrane, other nights its Buena Vista Social Club. The music combined with the cigar takes me away on a 1:30 hr mini-vacation.

Sitting in my backyard watching YouTube cigar and whiskey reviews. I live in a very quiet neighborhood where everyone minds their own business, so that's a pleasant way to smoke a cigar.
